SBDC’s New Partnership Adds Tools to Global Business Program
Several workshops are offered throughout the year for companies interested in growing their export sales and entering new markets
Export Basics- This is a program for new and prospective exporters, covering the essential elements of international business. Through this half-day seminar, the Duquesne University Small Business Development Center will acquaint western Pennsylvania companies with the mechanics and procedures necessary to develop effective and profitable overseas trade.
Export Documentation - This course is designed around a text book dealing with every facet of the export process. The author of the textbook and highly rated speaker, Catherine E. Thornberry, will instruct the course.
Topics
- Managing the Export Transaction
- Quoting Export Orders
- Implementing INCOTERMS
- Working with the EXIM Bank
- Export Insurance
- Shipping and Packaging Issues
- Using Letters of Credit and Sight Drafts
- Complying with US Government Export Regulations
This practical and comprehensive 1 day course would require at least five different seminars to cover the same material!
Exporting firms can have confidence that their employees who complete the class will have the training and references required to process and export orders with speed and accuracy.
Doing Business Overseas (Series Seminars) -
The 3-hour seminar will cover a description of the country and will present up-to-date information on the business, political and economic conditions.
The overseas country seminar is for those manufacturing, technology and service companies who have an interest in understanding the nuances of doing business with overseas countries, the cultural, legal, shipping, and payment options in addition to in-country assistance for when the Pittsburgh company goes there to do business.
If possible, we include a foreign national representing their country as a panelist. This way we get a local perspective on what is happening over there.
