David Dietrich
V.P. Family Business Advisor, Family Business Center, NexTier Bank
David Dietrich is a principal at the Family Business Center @ NexTier Bank, based in Western Pennsylvania. Founded in 2002, The Family Business Center helps family businesses thrive through each generation. The Center and its team has the expertise to craft and implement solutions that provide harmony within the business and the family that sustains it, with a special emphasis on growth and succession planning.
David understands what owning and managing a family business center is all about, having grown up working in a business that his father, uncle and grandfather operated for 84 years. Based in Beaver County, Dietrich’s Plumbing and Heating was a very successful small family business -- until David’s father passed away suddenly -- and there was no succession plan. David’s mother and uncle sold the business, and David learned firsthand about the importance of succession planning for a family business.
David had great respect for his family’s business but his interest was elsewhere, specifically in the international business market. He obtained his PhD in international business and, over the past twenty years, has helped US-based companies conduct business on an international basis, with a specific focus on setting up new distribution channels or manufacturing relationships. His recent trips for customers have taken him to China, India, Russia, Siberia, and Brazil, among other countries.
David has experience helping companies leverage resources at both the state and federal levels available to facilitate international commerce. He is an expert at advising companies considering foreign trade on the “do’s and don’ts” of doing business in many different countries.
In addition to his work with family businesses, David serves as a consultant to the State of Pennsylvania and for several global development agencies in Washington DC for both e-commerce and economic development work. He is an adjunct professor at both Point Park University and Robert Morris University.
