L&K Bakehouse – From Vision to Reality
Rachel Thacker, owner of L&K Bakehouse, began her entrepreneurial journey with the Duquesne University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in January 2024. Like many aspiring business owners, Rachel faced a significant challenge: creating a comprehensive business plan to secure funding for her dream.
With the guidance of Don Lodge, Senior Business Consultant at Duquesne University SBDC, Rachel transformed this hurdle into a milestone. Together, they developed a detailed 30-page business plan, positioning Rachel to successfully apply for a small business loan. This achievement opened the door for Rachel to take the next big step—finding a brick-and-mortar location to expand her services and deepen her connection with the community.
In September 2025, Rachel proudly opened L&K Bakehouse at 945 Beaver Grade Road, Moon Township, PA. Her new location not only allows her to serve more customers but also creates a welcoming space for community engagement.
