Secrets of a Successful Introduction Video for your Business

It is fairly common knowledge that social media plays a huge role when it comes to marketing a small business. With platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube, to only name a few, the ability to reach a vast audience has never been greater. But, with nearly 4.5 billion users worldwide, you may find yourself wondering… how can my business stand out among the rest?

What Content Should My Business Post on Social Media?

Once you have identified and established the right social media platforms for your business, the next question you need to ask yourself is, what kind of content would represent your brand the best? The types of content can be broken down into six categories including entertainment, inspiration, education, connection, promotion, and conversation. Each of these categories is very important and a well-rounded marketing strategy implements all of the above, however, research has shown that connection trumps them all.

Connecting with Your Audience on a Personal Level is Key

Personally engaging your brand's audience allows you to tell your story, including the highs of being an entrepreneur, as well as the lows. People love to see the “realities of business”, whether it’s the struggles you encountered getting started or the success you have enjoyed after a lot of hard work. It allows your followers, clients, and anyone else that discovers your business to relate to you on a personal level, creating a connection that is key to success!

What Content Produces the Most Personal Connection?

Your business has established a social media presence and you are ready to tell your story, now what? Sure, you could copy all of the text found in your bio and paste it into a post for your audience to engage with. But, will this attempt at explaining who you are and what your business does really allow your followers to connect with you on a personal level? The answer: Not quite.

The hands-down best way to tell your business story is to publish an introduction-style video across all of your social media platforms. This video should include everything you would write in that bio found on your about page, including who you are, the products/services you provide, how you got the business idea, and your journey thus far. Keep in mind, that this is a great opportunity to emphasize what makes you and your business unique.

How to Make a Successful Introduction Video

Do you want to know one of the best things about making an introduction-style video? Nearly everyone already has the tools on hand to make a high-quality recording. Just simply pull out your smartphone from your pocket and you are ready to go!

Well… there are a few more things you should keep in mind while recording your video to make it as high quality as possible. First, a step that is often overlooked, make sure the camera on your phone is clean. There is nothing worse than recording an entire video, only to realize there are grease smudges, fingerprints, or even dirt on the camera lens. These will make your video appear less appealing to your audience and drive down the overall engagement. Next, find a room, whether it is in your house or an external location, that has good acoustics. This means the room is relatively small, when you talk there is little to no echo, and the walls seem to absorb the sound. These small details will definitely help the audio quality of your video. Finally, once you have found the right room, make sure it is well lit. This may include bringing in a few extra lamps or even opening the window blinds. Anything you can do to make the video look as professional as possible.

Once you have all of these boxes checked, you are now ready to record your introduction video!

Making the Most of Your Post

Here are a few additional things to keep in mind as you prepare to record and publish your video on your social media platforms.

  1. Each platform is different when it comes to preferred video length. A great rule of thumb is to try and keep your content to one minute or less. Most platforms prefer videos that last between forty-five seconds and 1 minute long, with YouTube being the exception (preferred video length on YouTube is at least 2 minutes). If you follow these time limits, your video will have a better chance of reaching the most people.
  2. Once your video is published, consider “pinning” the post on platforms such as Twitter and Facebook. This will keep your introduction at the very top of your profile, which will allow visitors and followers to easily find it when they visit your account. This is a great way to add “shelf life” to your content.
  3. Have fun with this video! The best way to engage your audience is to be yourself. So be relaxed, be confident, and put your best foot forward!
