Duquesne University Graduate Student Develops HR Handbook Template to Empower Small Businesses
Pittsburgh, PA (October 2025) — The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Duquesne University’s School of Business is proud to announce a new resource designed to support small businesses in overcoming common human resources challenges. Natalie Zentz, graduate fellow student working at the Duquesne SBDC, and involved with her family business, has developed a comprehensive and adaptable employee handbook template tailored to meet the needs of businesses of all sizes.
With a background in human resources, Natalie recognized a critical gap faced by many small businesses: the lack of time, expertise, and resources to implement effective HR programs. Her solution—a customizable handbook template—offers small business owners a practical tool to establish clear policies, foster positive workplace culture, and ensure compliance with employment regulations.
“This initiative not only provides small businesses with a much-needed resource,” said Rich Longo, Director of the Small Business Development Center at Duquesne University School of Business, “but also gives Natalie invaluable exposure to the realities of small business operations. It’s a true ‘day in the life’ experience that bridges academic learning with real-world impact.”
The handbook template is now available through the Center and will be shared with local entrepreneurs and business owners as part of Duquesne’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and economic development.
